Name: Frances Kwon
Age: 25
Hometown: Saddle River, NJ
Current City: New York
Alma Mater: Parsons School of Design
Major: Photography

New York blogger Frances Kwon has an affinity for contrasts. Her apartment mirrors the title of her personal style blog, Pink Horrorshow: she has an animal skeleton perched close to a Chanel light, a skateboard deck next to a vintage gold mirror, and dinosaur sculptures on top of her fashion photography books. By making items that seem a bit dark and twisted seem playful, Frances has created a space that is feminine but not prissy. Read on to get a glimpse inside her eclectic apartment.

"My gold mirror is from a tiny mirror store in New Jersey. My coffee table is by Isamu Noguchi—a classic design piece!"

"The bottom shelf is filled with old magazines that I know I will never look at again, but can’t bear to throw away. I guess I’m a hoarder in that sense; I have old magazines tucked away everywhere in my place! In my apartment, I like to keep things fairly neutral and then add pops of color. That way, it’s not too overwhelming. The pink skull candle and my Yoshitomo Nara tray are perfect accents."

"This vintage Chanel light, Fifi Lapin print, and vintage deer are all from eBay. I’m all about saved searches! That’s the easiest way for me to find items."

"These stacks are of two of my favorite magazines, . My YSL Tribtoo pumps used to fit, and then one day, my feet appeared to have shrunk! I love them too much to get rid of them, so I display them on my bookshelf."

"Learning about photography at school and galleries made me want to buy so many books so I could admire the work that I love whenever I wanted. These aren’t just coffee table books for me; they are great sources of inspiration and motivation. I bought the grenade coin holder and the D.L. & Co. skull candle off of Fab.com and Gilt.com, I love those websites; they always have the greatest items for decent prices. I like to put random, playful items around my apartment to keep it from looking too prim and girly.”

"These nesting dolls by different artists for an anniversary issue of Each doll is by a different artist like Rita Ackerman and Kurt Vonnegut, and they were released in a limited quantity."

"Everyone should pick up the decorating book. I miss that magazine so much, and this book has the greatest images of decor inspiration."

"This is my dog, Ezzie. The sofa is a really special piece from Kravet. Picking the royal blue velvet was the perfect decision."

"This is my favorite mirrored lamp, an Alexander McQueen shoe souvenir from the exhibit at the Met, and a vintage phone that I found on eBay."

"I have an obsession with rabbit items—I guess partly due to the fact that I born in the year of the rabbit. I found this leather rabbit mask on Etsy, and this is a Fifi Lapin print."

"I don’t personally skateboard, but I grew up loving the culture. The skateboarders were always the boys that I had crushes on! There’s a nostalgic quality to anything skateboard-related. I was so happy that I managed to get the Celine inspired skate decks by blogger Jayne Min. They’re the perfect ‘downtown chic’ decor items."

"This ceramic elephant stool holds photography books and my toy dinosaurs. The dinosaurs lighten up my apartment and add a playful touch. They’re a reminder of my childhood too—I was obsessed with dinosaurs!"

"I’m wearing an ALC top, Levi’s shorts, and Alexander Wang shoes. My favorite designers are Karl Lagerfeld, the Proenza boys, Riccardo Tisci, and Stella McCartney."

"I wanted to keep my bedroom very serene and simple, so I used mainly neutral. Instead of keeping the walls painted, I added some interest with the subtly shimmery striped wallpaper. My bed linens are from Pottery Barn and the mirrored side table is from Horchow.com. My friend won the pink Domo doll at a boardwalk arcade one summer."

"This lamp is from Urban Outfitters. Fresh flowers add life to a room. I don’t always have them because it’s an expensive habit to keep up with, but they definitely add natural beauty and freshness. My absolute favorite flower is pink peonies, and I love roses too."

"My Chanel Mary Jane flats are on top of my art books. The little quatrefoil chair is from the Suzanne Kasler collection by Hickory Chair."

"I love YSL tributes because they are actually really comfortable, and they come in a huge variety of colors and textures. Purple is a great, vibrant color for summer. Miu Miu is my favorite shoe brand, and the polka-dot ones are flirty."

"My Valentino shoes sit on old issues of . I got them on sale at Bergdorf’s. I love anything with heavy embellishments, and I love a black peep-toe. I had to have them!"

"The For Like Ever pink poster was on a cover of magazine. It’s by Village, a cute website that focuses on designing great typefaces. My 3.1 Phillip Lim dress was from a sample sale, and I’m wearing Miu Miu shoes.”
